The Hôtel-Dieu of Lyon, our historic jewel

Built over the centuries and for a long time the city's main hospital, the Hôtel-Dieu is a major monument on the Presqu'île, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and intimately linked to the history of Lyon. Closed as a hospital in 2010, its origins date back to the 12th century and it stands on the banks of the Rhône like a landmark of light-colored stone and memory.

Between 2015 and 2018, a major restoration gave it a new lease on life: courtyards and cloisters were renovated, the dome rebuilt, it was opened to the public, and shops and a five-star hotel were added. The spirit of hospitality of the place lives on, transformed into a contemporary art of living.
